Meckhé is a village located in one of the most arid zones of Senegal. In rural areas surrounding the settlement, the water scarcity conditions for most of the year makes farming difficult, forcing the inhabitants to abandon their home looking for other sources of revenue. It is essential to find out alternative and sustainable sources of water in order to allow and support agricultural activities even during the dry season: wells equipped with solar-powered pumps are an economical and sustainable option.
Alberto Doro has just come back in Italy after realizing his thesis research in this zone. He investigated the water supplies particularly in the rural area, the water demand and the future use scenarios.
